Winch Maybe?
I have been thinking of putting a winch on my 2013 2D. I don't do alot of heavy off roading but I do bow hunt, and have gotten into some rough places in the past. What would you suggest for one that I hope to never need, but if I did would take care of me? Like everyone out there I would like to keep the price down, but still have some quality. Do they usually come with everything but the mounting plate?
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Regardless if you need one or not, get it. Itll come in handy if you ever need it. You dont have to get all fancy and get an expensive warn winch. I do recommend you buy one with a synthetic rope, itll cost a little more but it waaaay lighter than a steel cable and its safe to use.
I bought a smittybilt 8,000lb xrc comp winch, not fancy but better than nothing or other cheap models.
Warns are not that expensive. They do offer entry level with the same reliability. Skip the synthetic option if your trying to save money and get a reliable vr series Warn. Synthetic won't do shit for you if your winch doesn't work.
You said you get pretty far off the beaten path. Go with reliably.

I just picked up the Engo 9000 with the synthetic line shipped for $378. CHeck out this thread, https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/spon...s-last-267999/

You can't go wrong with a Warn, they do have an entry level line and you can depend on them when you need them the most. Mine has treated me like a king without a single complaint....Very pleased!

For what you are saying I would probably just get a good quality come-along hand winch and a nice set of recovery gear. You can use it for a bunch of other things then and it basically cant break. Plus then you can pull forward, backwards or to the side as needed. Im not saying a winch is not a great thing to have but what you are describing might work best with another option.

Plenty of choices out there, and many newer, lower cost, brands to choose from that are reported to have decent quality. Just do your homework and read as many reviews as you can --> from people who actually own and use a specific brand, not just people who badmouth based on a name.
I myself have a Warn 9.5 that has been hanging off the front of my 4x4's for 13 years, and it is still going strong. It was expensive, but I've gotten my moneys worth out of it.
Depending on what you see your needs/usage as, you might even look at getting one on a carrier that you just plug into the hitch receiver when you go hunting, instead of having it hanging off the front full time.
