So I'm close to buying a winch for my new bumper coming in the mail. I just have some questions on winching in general.

1. When winching yourself out some somewhere, what should you put your transmission in? (auto trans)

2. Which winching someone else, what should your transmission be in? And you should have the parking brake on right?

Also, I'd assume you'd want the engine on so you don't drain the battery. Any other helpful tips are appreciated!
