Default Winch Safety Thimble?

Anybody using the Tough Stuff Winch Safety Thimble? If so, did you remove the existing hook and thread in the Saftey Thimble? How has it held up? What are your impressions??

Thanks in advance for sharing!

Mine came on the synthetic line I bought from David at Northridge4x4. It was his recommendation, and I'm happy with it.

If you decide you want one, let me know. I have one that's never been used.

Any reason why you decided not to use it? Still would like to see how well the thimble goes on and holds up

I was going to use it with my steel cable, but I can't find a way to clamp the cable like it come's from the factory. The instructions say to use 3/8" cable clamps, but I don't like the looks of it and it also doesn't fit through the roller fairlead. If you go to toughstuffproducts.com you can see the install instructions on there. I was going to post a direct link, but that's against the rules.

I would think if you go to a local company that sells large wire rope, they should be able to use a proper crimp to attach the thimble. Not only would I be concerned about the looks of cable clamps (I'm talking about the kind that uses two bolts and nuts to hold the cables), I'd also be concerned that they would not hold under the toughest of pulls. I would not want that wire rope whiplashing around should it pull free from the clamps.
