Default Winch Suggestions Anyone

I'm looking to do the in stock bumper winch install (btw, thanks Inlo for the write up).

So, I'm thinking I need at least 9,000 pulling power, series wound and remote solenoid so as to relocate the solenoid in the engine compartment.

Do not know much about winches, so I'm turnig to you guys for options.

Thanks in advanced.

Warn is the top of the line choice, but very expensive. (and worth every penny)

A lot of people are going with less expensive options and having very good luck with them. Recon has been talked about a lot lately. And RC just came out with their own line of winches which may be worth a look.

Guess it just depends on the budget?

I have a smittybilt XRC 10 and have been very happy with it. I have had it for 2 years, and have used it plenty. No problems and I feel it is very reliable.

Be sure to save some $ for a tree saver and a good snatch block.....ARB is the way to go.

I had a Smitty XRC10 and I now have a Superwinch Epi9.5S. I like both of them. The Smitty is a good value and worked well for me, but it is a bit slow. The Superwinch is clearly a better winch (faster, better parts) and for me it was a GREAT value, since I won it at a Jamboree.

I also have a Smitty XRC-10 Comp with the synthetic rope. Excellent winch and it looks good too.

My smittybuilt 8000 pound winch still going strong after one year of pretty heavy useage. Prob 18-20 hard pulls in the last year. I already got my moneys worth.

I've been starting to look at winches too. Any input on the Superwinch LP8500? www.quadratec.com/products/92140_1010_07.htm The price seems right but I, along with the OP, don't know much about winches.

I haven't read any feedback on the quality yet, but for that price range, go out to Rough Country's website and take a look at their new line.

And for a general longevity comment: I have had a Warn 9.5 sticking off the front of my 4x4's for 11 years now, and it is still pulling strong. Can't beat the quality or warranty.

That said, if I were to buy a new one, I would look for a quality lower priced winch. There seem to be quite a few good choices out there now, unlike when I bought mine.
