Winch and Tire Q/A
Hello everyone,
I have been doing quite a bit of research on these forums recently for some future upgrades for my JK. I have run into two questions that I should probably find the answer to before I move much farther though. The first question I have is about winches. I am trying to decide if I should get a hydraulic winch or an electric winch. Now, I understand that there is quite a debate over which is better. I know the pro's and con's of each in most aspects except one: life span. If I buy an electric winch from a name brand such as mile marker or superwinch, how long can I expect it to last with proper maintenance and a cover? Is it comparable to a hydraulic winch? I would like something that will last me a good long time and won't cost me over a grand.
My second question involves tires and to a lesser extent budget boost. I am considering going as large as 35 inch tires with a 2.5 inch BB from TeraFlex. What problems may I run into using stock parts? My jeep is a 2007 Jeep Jk X with a rear dana 44. I am not looking to upgrade too much at this point, just get my feet wet. While I would prefer 35 inch tires, I worry I should stick with 33 inch tires until my jeep is a little more built up. Any advice on this issue would be much appreciated.
I hope that I have not asked questions that are answered many times over, I did do a search but I couldn't find anything that really matched those two questions.
Thank you all for your time in your responses.

I own 3 winches. My oldest is a Warn 8274. I bought it used in high school in 1988. I have no idea how old it really is. In the 19 years I've owned it I had rebuild it once. I have had it on three seperate Jeeps and unfortunately it currently resides on the garage floor. I also own a Warn 9000XDi that I bought new in 1997. I have had it on 5 trucks. It currently resides behind the bumper of my F250. It is used monthly in its current application. I have replaced the cable twice, but nothing else. On my JK I have a Powerplant 9500. I've had it for 2 months. I've used the winch twice and the compressor 7 or 8 times.
If you purchase a quality winch (Warn is my personal recommendation, obviously) it will essentially last forever.
