Default Winch will not Free Spool, need help

I just installed a smittybuilt xrc8 on my jeep. It goes in fine and out fine but when I move it to free spool I cannot get it to move. Am I doing something wrong? This is my first winch so I am a little clueless. Any help would be gret. I tried using the power button to unwind it all the way and then wound it back up but would still not free spool after this.

Would it feed in and out if it was in the free spool position?

So I should try pulling on the engaged setting? I guess I will go outside and try that.

yep it may have came assemble wrong from the factory.. mine was doing the same thing but it got much easier with use and when it warmed up outside. try to feed out some cable then turn the clutch lever to free spool and try pulling on it.

Well I went out and and unwound the hole thing with the remote stopping every once and a while to see if it would free spool and it never did. got the very end and the cable was all tangled up where it connects to the winch. I wound it up trying to get it as evenly and neat as possible and after I wound it up I tried to free spool again. IT WORKED. Thank god, I guess it was just the cable tangled up at the very begining on the first loop of cable. that is a huge relief. I still need to wind it up with tension on the line but that will have to wait for aother day.
