I am looking and learning too. Warn uses a drum brake which is bad for synthic rope. Generates heat. Superwinch uses a brake in the gear box. Still want to check into Recon and Engo winches.

I have a warn xd9000i with steel cable and am getting synthetic soon and never heard of warn having problems with anything! Warns are awesome!
OP - a buddy of mine has a 10k quadratec and it's a great winch.... Line speed isn't no where near as fast as a warn but it's a good winch!

i just spent a lot of time researching winches and it came close between Warn and Quadratec but i just felt better investing in a Warn, went with a 10k synthetic

I bought a 10k engo with synthetic. $426 shipped, I thought that was a great price.

That does sound like a good price. But how are engo winches? I haven't heard anything about them? Reputable, service, warranty?

Not many people run this winch, but I have the rugged ridge XHD 8500. I really like it and it is not very expensive at all. I pull my JKU out with it and I have absolutely no problems.
