Winching with RPMs
Hey, any of you electronic freaks out there figured out a way to keep the RPM's up when winching, with out sitting inside with your foot on the skinny pedal.
Some people put hand throttles on earlier Jeeps, but I'm not sure if that will work or not with the new drive-by-wire throttle. I haven't checked it out to see what would/would not work.
Do a search for "hand throttle". I think there are a few threads, maybe somebody figured something out.

Well, I did a Goggle and found a company that makes Electronic Hand Throttle and their web sight says they are developing a Electronic Hand Throttle for the 2007 Jeep JK. So I guess we wait.
Offroad Engineering is working on one. I have their model 200 electronic throttle control on my CJ (Mopar fuel injection - it thinks it's a TJ) and it works great.
Throttle control for winching/welding plus it works like cruise control on the trail.

So can you give us an idea on cost?
WOL's kinda particular about links to companies that don't sponsor - maybe he can hit offroadengineering(dot)com up for a little advertising once they come out with the model 200JK or whatever they decide to call it. Seems like they could sell a few here
The 200 for the TJ is $259. The only negative that I can offer up is this: unlike a manual cable to the throttle body which moves the throttle plate this unit takes advantage of the drive-by-wire technology and plugs directly into the wiring harness. When you power up the control unit it fools the computer by signaling it to open or close the aux throttle plate which is a smaller opening on the side of the throttle body bypassing the main plate. The smaller opening equals less flow which is why they advertise a max idle of 3000 rpm. That much throttle is more than enough for the intended use as a idle speed controller but sometimes it is not enough for its secondary purpose as a trail cruise control. Used with the Mopar setup on my CJ I found that it provided enough throttle (low-range trail use only) to act as a cruise control and keep my foot from bouncing on the gas pedal until I tackled anything more than a moderate hill. On steep hills I'll assist with my foot as needed.

Mounted in my CJ running a complete Mopar fuel injection conversion (TJ computer). The controller is the small box under the dash with the green LED. On/Off toggle is the silver switch on the right. Throttle up/down toggle is to the left, momentary up/down spring loaded return to center.

Repeater toggle of the up/down function mounted on the stick. This is an additional option - I think it was about $50. Well worth it!
BTW, the control module is hidden behind the dash.

Hey that electronic hand throttle product is out now. I just read about it in Four Wheeler mag. There's 3 pages about how to install it - they did it on one of their project Jeeps. Says it's available now. This just might be what we need.
