Default Wobble help

Riding out to the desert today I experienced an intense side-to-side wobble after hitting a couple bumps on a paved road. The road was fairly curvy and I was probably traveling somewhere around 40mph. The wobble was so intense I though a tire had fallen off. When I slowed to to idle speed the wobble subsided and everything was normal again. Later in my drive the road was again curvey and I hit another series of potholes and the same thing happened. Driving home I purposely travelled down a paved road that has a series of bumps and again the same thing happened.

This is the first time this has happened, and the jeep is riding fine now. Apparently, the wobble only occurs after going over a series of bumps. FYI... I have a 2"BB on 33" tires w/procomp adjustable shocks. Everything else is stock.

Any ideas? Help.

Jack up the front end and make sure everthing is tight. Sound s like a worn or loose front end part.

This is the infamous 'Death Wobble' that so many posts have been devoted to (do a search). I recently had it on my completely stock JK Unlimited Rubi. Dealer replaced my steering stabiliser (which had blown a seal and was leaking oil) under warranty and it hasn't happened since. Try the easy things first -
  • wheel balance
  • tighten all nuts under the front end, particularly the rod that secures from the front differential to the frame
  • replace the front steering stabiliser
  • have an alignment done to check caster (I think factory setting is + 4.2 degrees - you might want to verify)
On my TJ Wrangler I had major DW problems, and I did all this (and more) with no success. I finally replaced my front Lower Control Arms with adjustable ones from Rubicon Express. I never had a wobble from that day on.

Good luck,
Marty

I've been battling this since my trackbar bracket broke right off of my axle housing. For a lot of good up to date help check out my thread here:

I just got the same exact thing. I thought I lost my front left tire. I'm taking it in to the dealer tomorrow morning. They seemed pretty genuinely concerned that my Jeep was doing this. I'll post when I get it back and tell you what they did.

Just had my first wobble today. I hit a weird bump that seemed to throw everything into a tizzy, then the dreaded wobble.

I had been noticing over the last few days my tire balance was not as good as it has been, so this is my first suspicion. I have 18k miles on this suspension and tire set up and never a hint of a problem before. I rotated the tires about 3k miles ago. No other changes.

I do not have adjustable control arms and I know my pinion angle is off, but this has never caused any noticible issues.

Balance job first, then control arms if I need to.

Sounds like a trackbar issue. Make sure everything is tight. I believe 125 ftlbs for the trackbar bolts. Also check your trackbar brackets on the axle and make sure they are connected and no weld fractures.
