i am looking to do 35's on the jeep, but would like to know if my stock gears in the X 2dr will hold up, or would i really have to do gear upgrades.

they'll hold up, you might just want to change them for the loss of power..

then again with the added weight on the D30 there have been some failures.

i will be going 35's but i have a rubi with d44. im going to see if the loss of power bothers me and then go from there.

btw, where in gurnee are you? im just south of you.

I ran 35's on my 4dr with 3.21's for about 7 weeks. 4.88's were on backorder and I waited about 6 weeks before changing my order to 5.13's.

If you are on a budget and cannot do the gear swap for a while - it is driveable. I actually considered cancelling my order and just driving it since it was taking so long for the gears to arrive. It was really not as bad as people had made it out to be.

That being said - when I picked it up from the dealer after the swap I was really impressed wiith the results. I had forgotten how much power I was missing. The jump from 3.21 to 5.13 is like night and day. This Jeep is by far the slowest vehicle I have ever owned, but it is really fun to drive now. Even stock with the 28's and the 3.21's it was a dog compared to the 35's and 5.13's. Hope that gives you some insight.

Hey I just live north of you, in Silver Lake, WI. It looks like we have quite a crowd in our area.

I have 35's with stock 3.73's and while it's a little sluggish, it's not bad enough for me to dump a lot of cash into new gears. It's bearable.

Check out the following chart on the website below. Line up your original tire size and gear ratio to find what rpm you would be at at 60 MPH. Then find the equivilent RPM for 35 in tires. That will give you the gear ratio that you need to take it back to stock RPM at 60 MPH. If you install 5.13's while running 35 inch tires your going to hit 3000 RPM at 60 MPH in 5th gear.

5th Gear is your 1.00:1 gear.
