Been looking at tires. Ran 33" cooper stt on last jeep and had tough sidewalls in rock areas I ran them. Think they were D rated. Looking at mtrs now but C rated in 35 but have kevlar. Are they just as tough of sidewall as a D rating? If I ran the 37s they'd be D rated but probably won't even though I have 4.10s and new 3.6. Just picked up the new Interco birddog wheel in 17x 9.5 with 3.5 bs and think they will work out well.

i dont know from a technical standpoint but id say yes. my buddies mtr kevlars have taken some sharp rocks and plenty of offroading with no issues. Hell my mud grapplers have deeper gouges in them than his.

I think they have a fairly thin sidewall. I've ripped one but seen 4 others ripped. Also I'm pretty sure someone told me that the Kevlar is only in the center part of the tire and not the sidewalls but would need to do some research on it. But that being said they are good tires and I've put a set through hell and to only rip one sidewall isn't bad.

I'm going to look at an unmounted mtr in person today and check out the sidewall which according to their specs does have 3 ply with one being the kevlar. I ran cooper stt before and like their sidewall with armortec which held up good for me in rock. I looked at the newer cooper s/t maxx yesterday which are an AT but I would describe as an AT/MT hybrid, and they're close to the low weight of the mtr in 35" size.

I am working on my second set as we speak, and from my experience so far.. They definitely don't have a weak sidewall.. I abused my MTR's and I haven't had one failure yet, nor have I seen one.. And I've gone over some very risky stuff, including sticks and sharp rocks, etc. I wish I had pictures of the set I just removed. It was knarly. And fun.

Also, the sidewalls are definitely kevlar reinforced. About 10 seconds on google would reveal that..

Can you cut an MTR/K? Sure, just like you can cut any tire. The Cooper SST is a great tire and if you liked them before why not run the again? I would not be concerned with the sidewall strength of the MTR/K and the rocks in your area are pretty tame when it come to cutting tires.

I looked at the mtrs today and like them. Sidewalls seemed thick. I'm going from 33 stt to a 35 tire on a new jeep and wouldn't mind trying something new and the mtrs are 15lb lighter also. I've been wheeling in Colorado a couple times the last year and planning Moab this Spring, so not just for here where I live in midwest.
