Measure on a front tire from the ground to the center of the hub and double that.
Our 315-70-17 Goodyears measured about 33.5" that way. Takes into consideration the compressing of the tire under weight and tire inflation.
I first set our speedometer at 34.5" like the tire specs. told me but later reset with our ProCal to 33.5" . Verified with our Garmin Nuvi which is a very good speedometer and this is right on.
