It's a series wound motor, so it's probably pretty good as Chinkese winches go. I'll be going with one of the overseas brands myself, but have not decided which yet.

You won't be disappointed. I had to use this winch to extract myself from the trail after I lost my clutch, I ended up winching uphill for over an hour until I got to a place I could finally be towed out of the off road park by another vehicle, and it just kept pulling without any complaints.

I have the xrc8, and it has worked great for a month. Last night I took it off and put on a new bumper, and put the winch back on, and now it will NOT go into gear. It is stuck in freespool, and the lever will not move it into engage. I tried moving the drum and nothing. I had to take all of my cable off to drive it cause it was out a little and would drag on the ground if I didn't take it all off. Tried to engage it the whole time I was unspooling the line, and nothing. Anyone know what the heck is wrong with it? The in/out works and the motor spins, but the gears won't engage. ???
