Default yet another tire question

i know, i know anther tire question. mine is i was browsing through quadratec for new tires and wsa looking at a couple 33 x 12.5 - 17. here is the question why is the tire tread width is 9.8" ? is it me or is the 12.5 supposed to be 12.5 "?

12.5 is the section width (the largest part of the tire, sidewall to sidewall)

Thread width is the width of the contact patch unmounted and fully inflated to maximum pressure.

Section width depends also of the rim width.

ps how do you like the duratecs? they were one of the tires i was looking at.

Duratracs are very good, I would buy them again with no hesitation. It is an excellent all around tire. Not the best in mud but very capable and they are not too noisy on road.
