Default You can definitely feel the difference between MT and AT...

I finally got my wheels/tires mounted today.... and coming from a non-offroading background I have to tell you... I definitely feel the difference between these tires and the ATs....I've read countless reviews that state "I can hardly feel em!".... I guess it is all relative but wow...I can basically feel the lugs when driving...they aren't loud, but still there is a noticeable hum.

I got the 285/75/16 Definity Dakotas made by Cooper which are supposed to be really quiet compared to other MTs....

I'm gonna play with tire pressure when I have more time.

I'm with you. On my 05 TJ, I was running 33" Toyo Open COuntry MTs. I found them noisier than I'd like. When they wore out, I went with the Open Country ATs, exact same size, and they were much better. Smoother ride, quieter, and they lasted longer.

what PSI are you running?

it is a difference, So people blame the lift for the stiff ride, when its really the tires

How do you like em? I have the A/T's in 245x75x16 and plan on going to M/T's in about a month when I do my lift.

I switched my Sahara over to the Rubi BFG M/T tire (275/55/17) and couldn't be happier with them. Hardly any hum and since they are still a 32" diameter the mpg didn't seem to suffer either. I put them on some Eagle Alloys series 140s and the backspacing pushed the tires out to the edge of the fenders. Now it looks like a Jeep should.

Oh don't get me wrong...I'm happy I did it! The Jeep looks great and the 4.75" backspacing on my 8179s helped.

I was just stating that you COULD feel it..and the reason most of you don't is because you've been on MTs prior to this..probably older Jeeps that were even worse on comfort and sound....ie it is all relative so in most peoples eyes its like meh this is definitely better then before!

That said...on the ride to work today I was getting used to it...not bad...Im a quick adapter...

MPG doesn't get hit? I'm not so sure about that... it doesn't roll nearly as freely and I can feel the rolling resistance

Make sure you rotate your M/T's regularly, like every oil change. I went from A/T's to M/T's on my F150. I only have about 25,000 miles on them and they are loud as hell (can't have a handsfree cell phone conversation). I'm told that if you rotate them more often they will be quieter for longer.

M/Ts will punish you if you fail to do often rotations

And like several others have stated you will need to play with you air pressure

Well mine didn't, I still pulled 23.5 mpg hand calculated recently from Fayetteville, NC to Newport News, VA. For the entire 900 mile round trip between Newport News and Columbia, SC it did 20.5 mpg. So I didn't see a hit but then again I stayed with a stock size tire.
