Default your thoughts please

I have a 2007 jku x with a daystar 1.75 level kit. I have 265-7516 terra grapplers on it that are close to slick. I need some advise as to what size tire i should go with next. Gas mileage is a concern. I do have 4.10 gears and six speed trans. I have a new child and money is a concern. I dont want to drop 8-900 for a set of tires that i will be sorry for buying. I have thought about 285-70-16 size but will i gain from this size? I dont want to run wheel spacers so what would you do? I would like a little taller tire but do not want the stuffed look. I would like to hear any thoughts you have.
Thank you.

BFG All-Terrains: $930 for 5 of them new. I've had them on 3 of my jeeps; quiet, smooth, looks good, and lasts freakin forever.

Depending on who makes those tires... those two sizes are almost the same height its the width that's different on them.

265/75/16 = 31.6x10.4/16
285/70/16 = 31.7x11.2/16

Please note above is an estimate... depending on tire it varies a little!

I'd consider the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO tires. They are a VERY good on road and a very capable off-road tire. They get some of the best gas mileage and general wear on road of just about any tire your going to put on your Jeep.

I actually got 80k miles out of a set of these tires once (yes they passed inspection every year! and would have passed the year I replaced them... but they wouldn't pass the Moab trip I was doing!!!)

If mileage is a concern your going to want to go with a thinner taller tire to reduce rolling mass and to compensate for you having 4.10 gearing. The tire your looking at doesn't fit that description very well. The max a JK can really do is a 33" tire without any lift and that's pushing it just a little... but is possible and safe.

I'd recommend looking for a tire that's 32-33" tall and about a 10.5" wide. Any wider will increase the weight and rolling mass of the tire and reduce your gas mileage a little.

Keep in mind since your not going huge (37+) the rolling mass isn't going to affect things quite as much but every little bit helps when your concerned.

what size, i like the fierce and bfg. just not sure what size and pros and cons as far as performance and fuel economy loss. I want to get as tall as i can and not have a stuffed look with the 1.75 bb that i have. It is hard to tell as the tires were more than half gone when i put the bb on.

Lots of great reviews on the Duratracs, but I don't know if they make em that size. They are a little lighter and should save a touch of gas.
What about a set of take-offs from a Rubicon ? You might be able to pick up new wheels and tires for that price.

Call your local Jeep dealer that does mods... sometimes they have takeoffs and are willing to sell them at a lower price.

Of course if you can find a local guy selling em you'll get a better deal, but hey its worth a shot!

Default Firestone

I don't see a lot of buzz on the Firestone Destination M/T but they are rated 99% (placed 2nd) on TireRack with over 10Million user miles reported.

That puts them between the BFG M/T TA KM2 number 1 and the BFG M/T KM at number 3.
