Default CB help in Central Mass

Ok there seems to be no one local that even deals in CB's anymore. Is there anyplace out here in the Leominster area? I get a SWR reading of 1.8, 1.1 and 1.8 for 1, 20 and 40 repectfully but when I start the car the channel 1 and 40 reading changes and there is a heavy feedback that makes the CB useless. I was right next to a guy and couldn't get a signal from him on Channel 19.

Anyone that can help?

What about that truck stop off the pike west of Sturbridge? I don't remember where exactly, but it's on the right if you're heading East.
They may have something...

Did you try the line filter? It sounds like you're picking up noise from the alternator if the problem occurs only when the Jeep is running.

2 filters are on it at this point. I'm thinking of using the mic as an anchor this summer if I cannot resolve.

Try changing your ground location

went directly to the battery and also another ground inside the cab and every variation to this. No effect. I think it's the handheld unit. I'm gonna wait until I can find someone with the same unit and plug theirs in to see if that is what it is at this point. Scott that is the reason I haven't been on any rides as of yet with any of the clubs. I have no CB and it's required.

I would reccomend removing the ground wire from the battery and grounding the unit to the body/chassis. Also make sure that the ground wire is as short as possible. I have the same cb and I mounted it below the glove box. I got +power from the switched cig plug and grounded it to a ground terminal that is on the passanger side by where the door wires plug in. My ground wire is about 8"-12" long. By the way a CB is highly reccomended for a trail ride with CCJC but it is not mandatory. If you do not have a CB you need to have a cellphone and make sure you have the Trail Supervisor's cell#

Hey Shaggy,

Here is what I've done so far and had no positive effects.

I installed below glove box also. Ground to the body bolt in passenger side first and ran power to cig. nothing good and the SWR was way off.

Changed ground to battery directly and the power to battery. I also grounded the antenna mounting bracket directly to frame with 10 ga wire. SWR is better but not under 2.0

I got a wilson antenna and changed from a 4' to a 3' and now I'm under and good on the readings when the vehicle is off.

When I turn on the vehicle I get the feedback so I put on 2 filters on the power line in and no change. It could be Alternator whine but pitch does not change with rpm which you would expect.

Now I'm stumped.

I hop on the other site often so maybe I'll post over their to get some local help. I need to call Kris and get in on a ride and fill out the forms if I'll be allowed on a ride. She indicated I could do this to meet everyone. Also need a rear shackle tow point.

Check out this site. There's alot of good information here. http://www.firestik.com/Tech_Docs.htm
Try scraping the ground from the battery to the frame, or add another ground from the motor to the frame, might get rid of alternator whine. You could also have a bad antenna cable.
