Default Diff fluid change help

Hey guys, so the dealer is trying to charge me 200$ a diff for the fluid change which seems nuts..I think I am overdue (24k miles) and was wondering if someone locally could walk me through it. It seems simple, I really just dont want to mess it up on my own. Beer and pizza on me, and I am willing to drive to anyones house. I would do it here, but I live in an apartment complex with no garage I guess I need to do a tranny flush as well, is that DIY type deal as well? Thanks in advance guys.

you can come do your diff at my house if you want, nothing to it. tranny is more of a pain in the ass. i had to do mine a while back when i crushed the pan, luckily i had access to a lift i cant imagine having to do it on your back.

im home for the summer after today, i should be back by 3:00-4:00 if you wanted to do it today, if not im around any other day. you need to get...

(4) quarts of 75w90 synthetic gear oil (get a good quality one like mopar, royal purple, mobil one or valvoline as they have the friction modifiers already in them)

a tube of RTV gasket maker

2 cans of brake parts cleaner

since you've waited so long it would probably be a good idea to pop the diff covers off and spray them out with the brake parts cleaner to get rid of any muck and excess metal shavings that may be in there. i usually pull my cover and do this every other diff change at 6000 miles.

if you really want to do your transmission i can help you, its just gona suck a little bit doing on your back

so for that get...

(5) quarts of ATF +4
high temp RTV
a new auto transmission filter (from dealer)

let me know

I had to take my tranny pan off after the seal got broken on a trail run. I know nothing about fixing stuff myself but still got most of it done without issue excpet for having the right tools to reach the 2 back bolts that are stuffed under the exhaust. Jason came by to help since he owns everything Craftsman. Not the easiest job doing it on your back and not something I want to do all the time but I got through it. I've found that working on a Jeep is a lot easier than any of the foreign cars I've owned in the past!

I realize that gear oil is much more expensive than motor oil but changing the gear oil is about 10x easier than an oil change. Besides the fact that all the dealership will do is pull the plug and not take off the diff covers, $200 is ridiculous.

We bought our Jeep used from a Toyota dealership in Scottsdale. AZ.
According to the invoice we paid for a "complete" fluid change.

That was about 12k miles ago.

Im guessing I should change my fluid too. . . . .

Default To change or not to change

After reading through a few forums, i decided to change mine myself to save $200 + bones. No problem at all except trying to get a funnel into the top fill hole, had to use a small oil pump. My rear fluid was dark grey and milky (im assumeing water got in) and when i took the fill plug out of the front the oil looked brand new. Should i bother changing the front fluid? and should the rear cover be taken off and everything cleaned out? 25 000 km on the same fluid from the factory...

If you don't have a oil pump you can just take an elbow straw (like they give you in hospital so you can drink on ya back) drill a hole in the gear oil top; insert the straw and squeeze the bottle
