Mass lifts
I'm looking to purchase a Rock Krawler 3.5 inch lift to fit 35 inch tires. Based on the lift formula that is used in Mass, the max lift allowed is about 3.26 inches. Any of you guys in Mass running 3.5 lifts or higher? Any issues with inspections, particularly in the western part of the state?

I think Tom (Heat Treater) MAY be running a bigger lift than that to accomodate his tires.

If I remember correctly, you can mount 35's without a lift if you get flat fenders or chop the stockers. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Q
From what I can find, the lift limits in Mass are determined by calculating wheelbase X wheel track / 2200. For an unlimited, that would be 116 x 61.9 / 2200 = 3.2638. That number is used to calculate the maximum mechanical lift allowed. The tire diameter can also be increased by that same amount.
The same regulation also allows for increasing the wheel track of the vehicle by no more than 4 inches from stock by use of wheels and tires (spacers are not allowed).
Door height only comes into play for "reconstructed" vehicles.
I would think that although 3.5 inches of lift exceeds the maximum based on this calc, it is only slightly higher. This would also be affected by the actual height gain of the lift and the weight of aftermarket add ons like winch and bumpers, etc. Are the imspection stations really that picky? 35 inch tires should be fine and the combined lift (tires and mechanical) are OK.
I see some nice rigs from Mass on this forum and I before I shell out the $$ for the lift, I want to know if any of you guys have run into issues, or if my information above is incorrect.
Thanks

Just go to a guy who you know to do the inspections and you wont have a problem passing (if you want to go with more lift). My cousins live on the cape and they had XJs more than 8" lifted no problems with inspections and cops and the XJs are far narrower than the new JKs.

HeatTreater, that was an awesome video! You may be right about wanting 37s but I gotta take it one step at a time for now.
I bought it out of state unfortunately, and I really don't "know" anyone that does inspections. I haven't really been able to strike a connection with anyone at the inspection station up the road from me. It seems like it's a different guy doing it each time.
I'm not going crazy high and it's debatable whether or not I'll even end up falling outside of the state guidelines, but it seems like the guidelines leave a lot of room for personal interpretation. The Rock Krawler lifts seem to be pretty true to their numbers unlike some other lifts that give you a lot more height than they state.
I just figured I check with you guys here to see what sort of experiences you have had with lifts and inspections in this state. I'm hoping most of you have had no issues and can set my mind at ease.

Ask any 4dr guy with 35's and they will tell you they want 37's they do go well with the 4dr and they don't look out of place either.
Check out YouTube " mrheattreater" if liked that video I have most of the mass/ ct guys rigs on there.
