Default 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sport 3.8

Hi folks, my first post. I’ve browsed the site searching for help on an issue with my newly installed Flywheel and clutch. I have a 2011 Jeep Wrangler sport 3.8. I have everything installed and engine starts. It doesn’t start right up every time and I noticed a squeal at first and then went away. The current issue is the new flywheel seems to be hitting the crank position sensor and has ground a groove in it. I cannot find any spicer that should be installed. I was thinking of shimming the CPS out but wanted to see if anyone has ever had a similar issue?

Welcome. Did you install a factory replacement flywheel? to rub on the CPS it would have to be a larger diameter flywheel or it is offset somewhat and the ring gear hits the sensor. When I took my 3.8 apart to sell it never had a spacer between the flywheel and crankshaft flange.

Thanks! So I originally bought a Luk and I compared old to new and didn’t see a difference. I ordered the Mopar flywheel and will reluctantly tear it down again this weekend. The spacer I mentioned is for the CPS. They mentioned a small cardboard gasket.

There's no spacer for the CPS. I have seen large burrs leftover from machining the notches that trigger the CPS. These burrs could stick out and hit the CPS, as well as falsely trigger the sensor. Suggest removing the CPS and look through the hole, bump the starter or turn the crank from the front, and maybe you'll see what is hitting the CPS. The burrs can be big enough to use a pair of needle nose pliers to bend back and forth to break off.

Recommend inspecting and de-burring before any flywheel install, seen this more than once!
