Deciding On Which Jeep
Hey everyone, I'm a newbie to the forum & trying to decide which jeep to get, my first one. All I know is I want the Cherry Red color for certain. I would like a soft top, question I have is about them getting scratched up & dingy where you can't see out of them, any comments/opinions about it? I like the 2 door with it being smaller but hubby likes the 4 door bc of it having more room, he says the 2 door if you get rammed in the rear the people in the back seats won't have a chance. Do the 4 door have more room in the back seat for leg room or is it the same as a 2 door? I have 2 teenage sons with long legs to think about. So for you jeep owners what are your opinions? What really is the difference in the different models? Why did you choose the Jeep you own? We haven't really been out looking at them yet except for a couple we've seen. I've done most of my looking online to get a better feel of the differences but I'm not getting much from it so any advice would be great. We are also planning on buying new 2010
Thanks
Marlene

I can't speak for the four door but, if your going to Carrie passengers get the four door it dame near impossible to get into the back set of the two door. Just noticed ---Welcome to the forum!
I never been in the rear seat of the 2D but I can say we often take all three of our teenaged daughters on trails runs in our 4D and the rear has great leg room. Even took my brother-in-law on a trail run and he was comfortable in back. Just my
btw - before we got our Detonator Yellow Rubi we looked at a Red X and I hated the color...the thing is I now love the color and feel the chrome accessories on that Flame Red X made me hate it but they look awesome with the right stuff...see JKDinkers rig for an example of what it could look like with "the right stuff!"
Good luck with you decision...

A few words of buying advice,
1. Think a lot about the soft top / hard top / dual top. You can save money the soft top if you think you'll really use it. Have the dealer show you how it works (they usually have one in the show room). The hard top is sweet, but storage of the freedom top panels can be a pain especially if you haul gear in the back. I doubt I'll ever take the hard top off but do take the freedom panels off.
2. 2-door vs 4-door. I have the 4-door. If you you plan on having more than 2 people in the Jeep often, get the 4-door.
3. Rubicon vs X/Sport vs Sahara. If you're going to wheel it off-road and plan to keep it stock, then spend the money on the Rubicon. If you're going to do hard-core wheeling and have a bunch of upgrades planned, consider getting an X/Sport and spend the difference on mods. If you're going on scenic drives on easy trails, get the X and don't look back. However, you may get hooked and regret not getting the Rubicon; guess how I know.
4. Test drive one. Make sure you go up a real hill. They might let you drive it overnight (common practice around here). The motor kind of sucks if you're used to modern V6 power or more.
5. Upgraded audio. Get it if you care about that.
6. Auto vs Manual. If you like a manual then get it, it will seem like it has more power because you control the shift points. I have the auto as I prefer to eat a donut with my free hand.
Whatever you get (unless 2-wheel-drive!), you'll probably love it. Good luck.

I've owned several jeeps. No 4dr... However, I do wish I had gotten a 4dr this time around. I hear they are easier to mod ie drive shaft upgrade when lift installed. Duel top is a must. Didn't get that this time either. Couldn't afford the Rubi, but I'm happy just the same. May be next time. Welcome to the forum by the way. Good luck with your shopping.
