Default Hello from SoCal

So this is my first post! I'm not sure where to ask the question but here i go.

I have a 2016 Hard Rock Rubi and I want to install a tow hitch, does anyone know if you have to remove the rear bumper to install?

(Mods please move this question if it doesn't belong here.)

Thanks in advance.

First off Welcome to JKF. You will find this a great place to hang out.

As for removing the rear bumper to install a trailer hit you will because it makes it easier to get the bolts in. Bumper removal is not that hard I believe there are 4 bolts. Just make sure you have assistance so you do not drop it. Here is a link to a members YouTube channel. https://youtu.be/HKXTD6ySA10

Default Installing receiver hitch

I just added one on my Sahara... it was very simple...it took me about 30 min...that's just because I took my time and cleaned up some stuff down there... I pretty much did it all myself, the only help I needed was from my son to help with the removal of the bumper (I didn't want it to fall while I was under the jeep). You should have no problem. You can always find a video on how to do it on YouTube. Good luck.

I think I will remove the bumper. Mainly because the hitch has the 4 nuts welded on and the space/gap between the bumper & the frame is less than 1/2". The YouTube videos look super simple, but they are not the hard rock bumper...I'm not sure if that matters. That''ll be my saturday morning project.

Thx all.

Im installing a Rugged Ridge receiving hitch on my 75th anniversary which has the hard rock bumper too. I saw that spacer and thought it might be welded to the bumper. Glad to hear I can put the grinder back on the shelf! I picked up my Jeep last Friday. My first mod on it will be done today! Thanks for the info, Blanco!
