Hey from Ohio
Hello all. Proud new owner of a new JK. Im totally new to the Jeep scene. My previous love was an Acura TSX. Tough to let go of it but needed to move on
So i stumbled upon this beast of a ride. I'm thrilled with it so far. I bought the X-type because I really didnt need all the bells and whistles.
Im so happy that I was able to find such an awesome and informative forum for the JK only. Im used to the help from past acura forums and happy that I can find a new home here. I have a ton of questions but will limit them to a few. This is basically gonna be a beginners jeep as far as mods go I believe, because I dont want to pour too much cash into it, but am willing to sacrafice maybe 2.5-3k tops.
The JK will be a daily driver for myself. Also I dont really know many places in northern Ohio to go wheelin
So basically im going for a good look from the jeep. But would like the capability to do some wheeling if I can find a good spot. Most likely looking for a smaller lift and some bigger tires. I have the 16" alloys on it now, not sure the tire size.
Also have been looking at the safari top for the summer. I purchased the Freedom top on the JK because the winters get alil nasty here with the lake a mile away.
Im wondering the safest most reliable sites online to deal with to buy some of the things Im looking for. Google search just doesnt cut it for stuff like this for me.
Any other advice/tips/info you all could lead me to would be great. Like I said before I'm a total Jeep noob. But I'd love to learn.
Thanks for the help and I look forward to some good replies.
And any links with products and stuff like that would be a great help

Welcome to the wonderful world of Jeeps. You are going tolove it. If you keep reading all the posts on this site you will learn where to buy and what to buy. What to stay away from and what to run from. The JK stock area is the place to start. Get some of the little things taken care of first and do alittle wheelin with it stock. Then you will know what types of mods you will need and want. You can dump a hole lot of money into one and not get you out of the front yard. So I say go play with it for a little while. Find out what 4 wheeling is all about. And don't go out by yourself. You will get stuck at some point and you will be glad you had another vehicle along. Welcome to the site.
Welcome to the site.
The northeast is low on public wheeling sites, but there are alot of private ones. I suggest looking into Clubs in your area as a way to get started, and the knowledge base there will be a benefit as well. I dont know all the clubs around myself even, but the one that comes to mind around you is Northeast Crawlers, you should be able to Google them up pretty easily. I know nothing about them other than the name, but I think Mr. Piginajeep is a member of that one, maybe he can assist you in searching them out more.
Any of the sponsor sites listed here: http://www.project-jk.com/?page_id=25
are a great place to get info & parts and whatever other bobbles you may desire. I have personally delt with Quadratec, 4wdHardware, & Northridge4x4. They have all been outstanding in my experiences. I would highly recommend any of them.
Congorats on your new Jeep, have fun with it! Oh yeah, as was said earlier, dont go it alone. Take backup.

I have kept mine pretty mild as a daily driver, a 1 3/4 inch daystar lift and P285/75/16 (33" tall) tires on 16x8 rims with 5" backspacing. That pushes the tires out past the edge of the fender flares and looks much better. I am running Bridgestone Revo A/T's, which are quiet on the street, and decent off road (no huge rocks here). I have had great luck with Quadratec and 4wd.com, both of which are knowledgeable and double check that the part you ordered works with your model Jeep.
Also, look at some of the write-ups done by the JK Guru-Wayoflife, who inspired me to buy some jackstands and a hi-lift jack to put my lift kit on by myself. Check this forum often for cheap mods.
