I've been on Jeep Forum for about 12 years, but it's a ghost town over there, and I'm not a huge fan of facebook groups, so I'm trying to find an active forum to make my new haunt.
I'm located on extreme eastern Virginia, on the Eastern Shore of VA. I spend a lot of time off road in the mountains of VA and NC, and I go back home to Florida a few times a year and hit the national forests there as well.
I chronicle most of my trips on my youtube channel. Check it out if you've got a second Defiant Offroad on Youtube
Here's my 2017 Recon, "The Defiant".
Hello and welcome to the club! Great to have you here. Tons of great info here and full of good people that are more than happy to share their knowledge.
Welcome to JKF! The rise of social media platforms has really killed most of the forums. JKF has not been immune to the decline in activity, but there are still a decent number of members here on a regular basis adding value and helping folks out....it seems moreso than some of the other sites. We're also a cordial group of folks. Most of the snarkiness has moved on. I'd say the regular demographic is likely similar to you in regard to age and social media platform group views. Happy to have you around and adding some value. We do have a video vault/members creation sub-forum where several members will post up their YouTube videos -
Welcome to JKF Frank. Our club is a member of Trails4Tomorrow here in Alberta and I am running for Govt Relations position to work with govt to stop closing the trails because of damage done by a few and actually nail those individuals much like you saw at that old town site. People do report a lot of trail abusers here for that reason. I saw your video of the Pines in NJ and heard you. Not sure if there are organisations like T4T down south there but this group has only got corporation and club level members not individuals so one has to join a club. My son has a good job as he will be the Trail Rep for T4T and gets to go on those awesome closed trails with authorities (who use modified JK's BTW) to evaluate if they can be opened again.
WELCOME to JKF.. I believe I saw one of your videos on the Tube recently.. I'll be on the lookout.. BTW.. There was a really good open bar/restaurant on the corner of Rt A1A and 19th street Virginia Beach years ago,, Great Happy Hour, Steamers and Fish Sandwich. good memory

That's great that you're working to protect your off roading resources. I was taken aback at the condition of Wharton State Forest. In most of the other states that I do the majority of my offroading in (VA, WV, NC, FL), the people are pretty good about taking care of the land. Of course there's always the knuckleheads that tear stuff up, but for the most part, people respect the land. Wharton was totally different. Litter everywhere, numerous places where people were going off-trail and tearing the vegetation up, and people making their own bypasses of water/mud. As widespread as it was, I got the impression that there was little-to-no enforcement in the state forest. I was out there most of the day, and never saw a ranger/warden/conservation officer.
I try to pick up at least a little of the litter that I see when I hit a trail. I didn't even bother at Wharton. I'd have been there all day, and would have filled my Jeep with trash. It's a shame. :(
