Default New from Central NC

Hi all, new to this forum, and back in a Wrangler. We just picked up a 2010 JK Sahara with under 39K on the clock (we have previously owned a tj, jku, xj, and wj). This one came to us with pretty much everything you could ask for - 3.5" Skyjacker Lift, 35x12.5x17 Nitto Trail Grapplers, XD Rockstar Rims, Warn Elite Front/Rear Bumpers, Warn VR8000 Winch, Warn Fogs, and Warn Driving Lights overhead. Already added the Teraflex hinge, but kept stock tire carrier for now. I haven't done the tire rotation/drive shaft test yet, but assume it has 4.11 gears, based on RPM tables - it runs at ~2500 RPMs @ 65 MPH in 4th gear. 6th gear may as well not exist, unless it's flat. Had it down to a the coast this past week and had a blast on the beach. Didn't need to air down at all, went up and over everything. Anyway, looking forward to a few more small mods and reading about everybody else's builds. BTW - I also currently have a 1987 Grand Wagoneer with 133K on the clock, just sharing . Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there!!

Welcome to the forum. I'm in Raleigh.

Definitely check your winch operation... sometimes they do not operate for various reasons (stuck solenoids, water in motor, etc.). It's better to check before you need it. Also, if it's a factory Sahara, it most likely does not have 4.10's unless the previous owner did a gear swap. The fact that you can't use 6th gear indicates you have a different set (most likely 3.73 if you have tow package or 3.21 if you do not. These were the factory options for the 2010 Sahara).

Welcome to the forum from Wilson, NC. Great looking Sahara. Really like the mods. Lots of info here for just about anything you can imagine and things you can't imagine.

Thanks for the feedback. I will definitely test the winch - it will be a "beach buggy" more than a mountain machine, so hopefully will never need it, but will be good to know if it works. The factory build sheet indicates 3.21 gears, also with the tow package, but based on everything i've read on this forum and others (i.e. 3.21 gears combined with 35s would be extremely slow off the line, almost un-drive able, etc) and the fact that this thing get's up and goes pretty quickly - no concern with jumping off the line and rapidly getting up to speed, i suspect it's had a gear swap (speedo is right on, and with everything else done, would be surprised if previous owner didn't do this right as well). If it had the original 3.21s, based on the rpm tables, i'd be at ~2k rpm at 65 mph in 4th, and i'm definitely closer to 2500 rpm. Oh yeah- and there is no tag on the rear diff cover, so it's at least been taken apart once. Can't imagine the tag falling off easily. Either way, pretty happy with the performance. Will eventually do the tire rotation test and count drive shaft revolutions to confirm.

Welcome to the gang!!! I live in Sanford and am building a '15 JKU (4in OME lift, 37s, 4.88 gears, ARB stuff...etc.). We have an offroad organization called Carolina Offroad with members from Mocksville to Wilmington.. If you want to check us out on FB.. please do.. we've constantly got something going on and have 70 members or so... We just got back from Big Creek where we had a great day of wheeling..

Looking forward to seeing you around...

Michael
