Default New to offroading and wranglers

I'm new to the whole off roading thing, and I am in the market to buy a car. I fell in love with the desert and I want to travel the Mojave Desert road. I also love the feeling of a vehicle with no doors or top, as it reminds me of my Army days driving HMMWV's....

To the point. I want to buy a Wrangler Unlimited. Should I go all the way and get a Rubicon, or would another setup be ok? I plan on taking it on desert roads, no rock crawling or anything crazy. It is also gonna be my only vehicle, so I don't know if that matters. Please let me know. Thanks.

welcome to the forum. as far what jk you should get, it depends on what you want to do. I got a bare bones unlimited so I could could make it a full on project and make it the jeep i want. plus i did have a lot of cash to spend right away. but whatever you choose i'm sure you will be happy, because there is nothing like a jeep.
Happy trails

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I bought a Rubicon so I wouldn't have to do many modifications, as the Rubicon came with just about everything I wanted/needed in a new Jeep. All I need to add is a little extra armor and a winch.

Welcome to the Forum! like iggy said it depends on what you are looking to do with your jeep as to what you need! I get the feel from your post that your a generally on road guy with limited off roading on light stuff. I would recomend a nice Sahara package to help with some of the creature comforts that we all like in our rigs these days! has a/c and such stock to help for those really long drives when the top is up. Generally the guys like to get a X model if there going to heavily mod, and the rubi is for the more serious off roaders. I have an 07 sahara and i do light duty off roading and I love every moment ! It is my daily driver as to why i chose that model! but Go drive a few see what you like! Ensure that you drive the model that your looking to buy!

Welcome to the forum. First best of luck with your find. My I live in desert and I bought the Wangler Unlimited X with the S package I have AC and it's loaded with power windows, door locks and came with both tops. The down fall so far is that it came with the dana 30 front axle so if your interested it going with some 35 or 37 inch tires down the road you might look at the rubi it comes with the dana 44 front axle and is much better. But I still enjoy my JK and I have no plans of getting rid of it. So far it's done really well for me. Plus I've done some rock climbing and some serious four wheeling, it just comes down to using common sense when off roading. Don't become a mall crawler go out and have fun and get it dirty that's what jeeping is all a bout.

I've been using an XJ on 32's for the last 5 years without the itch to upgrade any further.....so I think I'll be OK
