Default Heading West

My wife and I will be heading west for a three week vacation in August. We live outside of Philadelphia and will be driving to Yellowstone, San Francisco and Yosemite. The highlight of the trip (for me anyway) will be our three days on the Rubicon trail. We will be in Yellowstone from 8/7 to 8/11 and Yosemite from 8/17 to 8/21. I am looking for some trails while in the area and would love to hook up with some folks from the forum. I know this is a long time from now but wanted to do my research and get some ideas in advance. I will keep an eye out for any rides posted as the date gets closer.
Thanks

South of Yosemite along Hwy 41 there are the Star Lake Trails. Personally never done these but hear they're fun.

I've also done Shuteye Peak (I've heard rumors that it may not open back up next year, we'll have to see) which is out of Bass Lake.

Or for some more serious wheeling head SE to Shaver Lake. From there you can hit up a variety of trails including Coyote Lake, Swamp Lake (difficult), Bald Mountain (Mod-diff) or Dusy (3 day trail and difficult).

There are plenty of other trails around Tahoe if you want to warm up for the Rubicon. But I don't know that area too well.

Good luck, sounds fun!!!

Post up when you're going out, I'm sure people will make it out if they can!

Thanks for the info. I'll look up these trails and have a back-up plan if I can't find any rides posted around then.

Default Jeeper Jamboree

Sorry to bring it up but I didn't see when you were planning to do the Rubicon. The trail is closed to the public for two weeks beginning the end of July for the Jeepers Jamboree. You may want to either sign up for that, or plan your trip around it. I haven't been through with those guys but lots of people have had a great time doing it with them.

Please post up again as the time gets nearer and I'll go with you.

I'm signed up with Jeep Jamboree, I figured it was the safest way to go my first time on this trail. It also is the easiest since I needed to make plans and reservations for my other stops well in advance. The ride is 8/13 to 8/15 but I will be in Yosemite area from 8/18 to 8/22 looking for more trails.
