Has anyone heard of or been off roading in a place called New Idria in the Central Coast of CA? We live in Monterey and a co-worker keeps telling me that when she and her husband were young that is where they would take their jeep out.

Mostly I am just looking for somewhere near (besides Hollister SVRA) that we can go without having to drive 4 hours to get there.

I believe that they are refering to Clear Creek. It was accessible via New Idra but the area is now closed until further notice.

The soil has asbestoes in it. it is a naturaly occuring mineral.

The asbestos in the area isn't as bad as the processed item as we have used in building material but it is enough to cause health issue after long term exposure.

But they may reopen back up just donno when.

We have been all over that mountain. Sucs that they closed it. Try Pozo area, It is east of santa margarita off 101. if you want more info just give us a shout. Pine mountain is a good run as well as garcia's ridge.

Just heard about Garcia's Ridge from Hockey85. We should make a day out of it sometime.

I really like that area. It is about 1 1/2 hrs south of me. A good day trip. Beautiful vistas
