I was just reading a write up on how they are not full clips and this is the most common cause for front shaft problems the factory u joint caps coming off and failing.

If you don't tack weld, here's a trick you can do at least to see if your caps start walking and hopefully catch before a failure. Paint a line across the cap and onto the ears. If the cap starts rotating (a good sign of a loosening one), you'll notice and can tack corrective action. I decided just to upgrade w/ Ten Factory after I saw mine do this.
