Default Above the smoke - Stevens Pass

Have been breathing smoke here in Wenatchee plenty long enough. My wife, my son, and I hopped in the Jeep and headed up to Stevens Pass today, then took the road behind the Nordic Center up along Mill Creek, past the backside of the Stevens Pass ski resort. Nice! The stuff you see in the photos is NOT smoke, just cool, moist mist... Very nice for those of us who have been breathing smoke for a couple of weeks!

Nice drive. Actually got a tiny bit of wheelspin here and there as we drove up the hill. Tried to convince my wife that means I need lockers, lower gears, a lift and bigger tires. Oddly, after 30+ years of marriage, she's not buying my story. Weird.

Sure was pretty up there though. And cool. And damp. Nice change.

Very nice photos!

Sorry to hear about the problems you all are going through. I have been following up and heard about the smoke masks they were handing out over there. Must be really bad.
Any prognostics of improvement?

My wife also does not buy on the need for mods either. Really weird... 8-)

Very nice--great pics! It was very wet here on the westside this morning and pretty gloomy until the late afternoon.

Went up to Gallagher Head (Above Roslyn/Cle Elum) last weekend, and it was a blast. Can't beat fall wheeling in the NW

Keep working on that wheelspin. Important for it to sometimes seem impossible to make it up the slope. Be sure to mutter about how much less drama there would be with lockers. Its all perfectly true after all.

"Important for it to sometimes seem impossible to make it up the slope."

Yeah - it got pretty funny. I'd be explaining how important it was to have lockers and lower gears while the little JK just kept climbing up and over stuff... My wife would look at me and ask "So you need lockers to get up that hill we just climbed?" Hmmmm... We did a lot of laughing! OK. Maybe I'll save up for one Ox locker. Just to say I've got one if nothing else!

Re the fires - It looks like two big ones, the Table Mountain Fire and the Canyon fires, are going to merge, if they haven't already. They're real close together. I can't say enough good things about the firefighters. They stopped it right at the edge of town:

No rain in the forecast. I'm thinking this might be another case of the fires not really stopping until the snow and rain comes in November. It's happened that way before over here - just kept burning until the winter storms hit. Sure would be nice to get the smoke out of the valley. It's pretty bad. Couldn't see a mile through it just the other day.

Regards, CW

Come with us to Moab in March and we'll get you on some runs that need not just one but two lockers, after a few strap ups your wife will be begging for lockers. My wife always sees the wisdom in mods in situations like this. Keep up the wheelin and good luck in your mod budget
