I always like taking forest service road 75 from highway 410 just past Greenwater. You can follow it out towards Lonesome Lake, no campgrounds but a lot of places to camp. Good views of Mt. Rainier without the crowds. I've been going up there for 10 years. Not sure about fire bans, but you are not in the national park, you can walk to it though.

You can wheel and camp for days out there. Developed campgrounds, (flushing toilet) can be found out 410, about 12 miles past the Hwy 123 junction Kaner Flats and Lodgepole campgrounds. Do yourself a favor, stop by the ranger office in Enumclaw and get a topo map of the area. It'll show all of the forest roads. Like awkragt, we've spent many years out there. Our favorite spot is along the American River. It's always so peaceful there.
