Default Moving to Portland

Hey guys!

I figured I'd throw up a post here and see what kind of tips I can gather. I'm moving from Billings, MT to the Portland area this July for a transfer inside the company I work for. I'm originally from Olympia, but I haven't spent a lot of time down in the PDX area. Is there anything I need to know about before moving there?

I'm thinking I want to live a little out of town, possibly in the Tigard or Beaverton area, to help keep the culture shock a little lower! I was thinking I could possibly use the MAX to get in to town from there, but have never really used public transportation before haha, so I'm not sure how big of a hassle that would be.

How is the area for Jeeping opportunities? I was jealously reading this winter's snow wheeling threads, so I'll definitely be joining you guys next winter for those!!! If anyone here is up for meeting up when I make it out that way it would be nice to get to know some people with similar interests!

One last question, that you guys may or may not be able to help with, how's the interest in guns out there? My firearms are a bigger addiction than my jeep right now, so if anyone knows any areas to do some shooting, let me know!

Thanks in advanced guys!

Jake

Jeeping here is great as well as the interest in firearms/hunting. But having lived in both locations you are in for a shell shock like never before. I truly miss Montana, you will get used to it but it's a totally different culture here. Pm me when you get here we are always looking for more guys to jeep with.
Google Tillamook state forest for an idea on the kind of jeeping opportunities near by portland.
Good luck with your move/transfer.

Well, I've officially made it out here. Towing a 6x12 uhaul trailer got very old, very fast on the trip. Now that I'm out here, I do have one big question. Does anybody know of any mod-friendly dealers in the NW Oregon/ SW Washington area? I have to get an issue fixed, but don't want to get hassled about my lift.

Anyways, Thanks in advanced for the help! Hopefully I can hit some trails out here pretty soon!

btw, fatboy, PM coming your way.

NW Jeep out in Beaverton is pretty mod friendly from my understanding. Probably the "most mod friendly" in the area.

And welcome to Portland! Hope to see you around!

Thanks man! Let me know if you need another jeep to help even the numbers out a bit! I have a friend out here with a built up Nissan as well, so they can't be all bad, right?! I'll have to give you a shout sometime before too long though. It would be nice to learn a couple places to wheel around here.

What kind of Nissan?

I actually drove a built newer Xterra up until 5 months ago when I bought the Jeep. Not bad rigs at all, Oddly enough I still run the local Xterra club haha...The way I see it, just a group of people who enjoy the outdoors and wheeling, Idgaf who drives what, long as we are having a good time.

I believe his is an early 2000's pathfinder. I agree with you though, you can't go wrong with a group of like minded people! Speaking of that. We should try and get a trail run set up before the wet season hits. I'm busy these next couple weekends, but free up after that. Now that I have my jeep out of the shop (I broke a sensor connector when installing the lift ) I'm itching to get out of this city for a day!

I moved here for good a couple of months ago from Florida. I live in the Beaverton area and have been out to Tillimook State Forest OHV areas about a half dozen times. The trails are awesome! Great to have a place like that so close.
