Newbie in Walla Walla
Greetings friend, welcome to the forum. I too am a newcomer to Jeep ownership and this forum will indeed provide you with much useful information to find your way. Congrats on the new JK by the way.

I live in northeast Oregon and get through Walla Walla about once a month or so to visit family there. What you'll see are mostly snow wheelers in the Walla Walla area (those bobtailed 'yotas with 44's that bump to pass) who live for the snow runs in the Blue Mountains every spring (roads open April 1st). There's also a bunch of Jeeps scattered around who like rocks and dirt.
You are about 2.5 hours from Virtue Flat OHV Area, which is where a lot of us on this side of the PNW go to wheel. As soon as fire season is over and the rain starts again, we'll be wheeling there, about one run a month on average. It's a great place to learn, with trails from mild to wild and bypasses if needed for most. Our runs are family friendly and you'd be welcome to join us, just leave the booze at home and be reasonably prepared (basic equipment, tow hooks, etc.). VF is a great place to learn because it offers a wide range of challenges, with bypasses for the toughest stuff.
The Umatilla National Forest is full of roads but not much for 4WD trails. Still some great weekend drives.
Welcome to the dry side of the PNW.

Welcome to the Jeep world!
I live in the Tri-Cities but bought my JK (5th Jeep) in Walla Walla. A few friends and I are headed up to run the Lower Naches trail Saturday (Aug 28th). We'll meet at Whistlin' Jacks for breakfast at 08:00 if anyone wants to join us. We've never run that trail before, so looking forward to it.
Haven't been to Virtual Flats either... will have to go check that out soon too. :-)
There's a lot of info and good folks here willing to share it... enjoy!
