Default Trails in Oly/ Tacoma area

I'm looking for a beginner level trail to take my stock 2013 Rubicon on sometime this weekend. Nothing too technical oR advanced, just something to get off the hardball road and off the beaten path. I'd love to hear suggestions!

There is a group going to Fortune Creek this weekend. It is just what you are looking for. Tahuya is also an option out in Belfair, but I think wheeling for warriors is going on this Saturday so it'll be slam packed.

A pretty good local option is the Black Hills recreation area. South on I-5 until the US101 exit, then get on 101 and run the 4-lane about 10.4 miles. Look for Summit Lake Road. To the right it goes to Summit Lake; to the left it goes to Rock Candy Mountain. Take the left and there are miles of graded gravel roads. Run the gravel and keep your eyes peeled for turn-offs onto roads and trails that get more interesting. This isn't a true off-road 4x4 area, but there are a ton of roads and trails, some get steep and interesting.

The State of Washington wants $30 for the privilege of using the area. Its a one-time fee for a window sticker. You can pick it up anywhere auto licenses are sold, and probably at sporting goods stores also. This sticker is new last year and needed for a lot of the recreational lands in Washington.

Bring a compass. Its a big area with a lot of roads, a lot trees, and few signs.
