Default WA state fender laws...

Since I will be moving up there to Fort Lewis in a few months, what are the tire coverage laws up there? I will run Missouri tags for a while up there until they expire, but eventually I will have to get some WA plates.

From what I know, you are allowed 1" showing outside of a fender flair.

ive heard about such laws....but honestly im pretty sure they aren't enforced much. i've only heard of one incident, and the state patrol guy was already pissy. he got a warning anyways.

i see trucks and cars, and suv's all with over 1" all the time. hell, those big 250's and 350's have like 2-3 inches sticking out.

also see a lot of jeeps with tires sticking out past 1". so i wouldn't worry too much.

I am running with like 2" maybe more ... haven't gotten my measureing stick out, maybe I should

Oh, and on this subject, they don't really enforce much it seems. Im running without a front bumper right now too.

Just a winch and tow hooks on the front.

This web page (mine) has all the info from the Washington State Patrol about vehicle modifications for the state of WA:

http://www.dog-walker.us/4x4/4x4-110.htm

While I don't know how the enforcement of these laws is applied in western WA, I know over here in eastern WA (Spokane) they are not enforced that much.

Welcome to WA state!

Thumbs up

cough, cough... If you go through Ellensberg, Wa then I say I know of someone who was cited for not having flare coverage. With that said last year I came down out of the SW Wa. Cascades from a local SW Wa 4x4 club having completed a snow run and the local law enforcement was waiting for us to return on to the main forest service road and "just warned" those that did not have the proper flare coverage. I'll say this that one those who did not have coverage complained way too much about just being stopped and I'm really surprised the officer did not cite him. If you are out three inches or more, be prepared to get pulled over down the road if you wheel in different areas...
