Default Washington laws regarding doorless jeeps?

Hey all,

I have a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited and have pulled the top and all 4 doors off.

I have some take off motorcycle mirrors in the hinges on both sides, so I should be legal for mirrors.

What about the doors off?

Any WAC or RCW that says I cant remove them?

Obviously they are designed to come off, what about the law?

From what I understand is if it was designed to be off its ok. And you only need two rear view mirrors so your more than safe there. I only run one rear view, never been messed with

You can google the r.c.w. for automotive equipment. Basically all it says is that the door latches must be operable, not that doors must be equipped. You are also required to have two rear facing mirrors, they specify that the mirrors must enable you to see a specific distance behind.

So, you're covered man, have fun door less. I sure am right now.

X2 on all said. Had a cop pull up next to me at a stop light yesterday and I was topless and doorless with a motorcycle mirror on the left side. He looked at me and smiled then gave me a wave. Also had a cop pass me in Madina today, and if you dont get stopped in Madina for something, youre good!

I drive with my doors off all the time and haven't had a problem. I have state patrol even sheriffs drive next too me and wave. Make sure you wear your seat belt!

I live in the city in Seattle. I drive pass cops all the time. This week I've had my top and doors off with some motorcycle mirrors and haven't had a problem. I've probably passed 2 dozen cops. You should be fine.

Glad to hear this. I may be moving down to seattle before too long and was concerned about the doors thing.

So true about Madina. LOL! More cops per square inch than any other city in the country. Crazy.

Here is the law:

RCW 46.37.517
Body and body hardware.

(1) The body, fenders, and bumpers shall be maintained without protrusions which could be hazardous to pedestrians. In addition, the bumpers shall be so attached and maintained so as to not protrude beyond the original bumper line.

(2) The hood, hood latches, hood fastenings, doors, and door latches shall be maintained in a condition sufficient to ensure proper working equal to that at the time of original vehicle manufacture.

JK's doors are designed to be easily removed by the manufacturer so TAKE EM OFF! per the law.
