Willamette Valley JK's
Good news/ bad news. The good news is that I picked up a trail map for shotgun creek. The bad... there is only one trail (1.33 miles long) that is open to class II rigs aka full size 4x4's.
I drove down there and that's where I picked up the map. Spent a little time to try to locate the trail that was open but had no luck. But it was getting dark, GPS going dead, didn't tell anyone I was heading down there so I didn't explore to much. Thought, opinions?

Meeting place works for me. I'm just pissed at the lack of trail system for class II's. I guess alot can change in just 8 or so years. The map shows that the trail that's open is about 2/3 "easy" and 1/3 "more difficult". They only have 3 ratings they use easy, more difficult and most difficult. What that means I don't know.
Ok it was bugging me that I didn't find the trail head last night so I ran down there and just got back. Found the trail and decided to run the first leg of it... the start was the worst thing I did. It has a small rock berm that I drug my belly on and hit my sliders but very passable for everyone. There is a rock garden not to far down the trail that we can bypass. The garden is made up of 2'-3' sized rocks with lots of sharp points and edges. I think you'd be asking for damage if you try to hit it... The rest of the first leg was a small fairly level road with pot holes mud and ditches. Really nothing challenging about it. The only time I put it in 4wd was at the start and that was just so I could go slow. But... I do think that the second leg of the trail will be more of a challenge and more fun!
I'm bringing a sack lunch. I have the basics of recovery gear with me. Winch, snatch block, tree saver, strap, Hi-lift and 2 clevises. Also just bought a craftsman 260 piece set of tools for the JK. And if I remember I'll grab a mini boss chain saw out of the shop. For trail communication if you have a FRS/GMRS radio might toss it in. I'll have my Rino 530hcx GPS/FRS/GRMS with me.
It's red mud down there and it's known to stain clothing. Might have a couple friends a TJ and XJ also joining in. Other then that drive safe and see you guys in the morning.

Thanks for doing the recon. I just hope I can keep the darn evap cannister on this time! I was going to relocate it, but I'm tired of drilling holes in the JK, so I think I'll try one of the skid plates instead. Thanks for the tip on the clothing. I've actually got a brother who lives just east of Lebanon. He has a Sami and a full sized Bronco. He's a bit of a recluse, but maybe I'll try to get ahold of him too. The more the merrier!
I'm going to try to get to the truck stop around 9AM and have breakfast before we head out at 10.

A little mud a little snow a little winching. It was a fun time. And good to meet you guys in person. I didn't take to many pictures and these were some of the better ones.
Mel and I waiting for Tom to fill up his Hemi JK and John his TJ

Yeah you can't judge a trail by a picture

Almost 4 hours to go up a 1.33 mile trail

And about a half hour to go back down

Just settled in Eugene, this Oct., after back and forth for a couple of years. Have an 08 Rubicon Unlimited and have not had a chance to take it out. Attempting to meet local folks and have not found any yet.
I plan on going back down to Shotgun Creek again sometime soon. Just northeast of Marcola. I ran it with my stock unlimited rubi + winch. I've installed FT 3" lift since then and want to see how much the extra ground clearance will help out. If you're interested let me know.
