Jeeptoberfest - Ocala, FL Oct 26-27
There is something about off roading in Florida. Maybe it’s the enthusiasm of the participants at events, but there is no energy level higher anywhere else than in the Sunshine State. Man-made obstacle courses or not – Floridian’s love their rigs and are smiles when gates open.
This year we joined Jeeptoberfest in Ocala Florida as a vendor and participant. Our dear friends Bill and Jess in “Yeti Rebel” and Peter, Peter, Lori and Caitlyn in “AUSICON” and “GRN TOAD” drove into Ocala to be our rigs while we palleted up our mobile show booth and put Rebel team member Gabe on an airplane. A logistical challenge but worth working hard to accomplish.
The weather? California-esque! It was hot, but no humidity. There was mud however – something us Californians aren’t accustomed to but certainly made for wheel spin and cheers from the crowd.
Attendance? 1,350 registered Jeeps! That’s right, one thousand, three hundred and fifty Jeeps from all generations. Multiply a passenger in each Jeep and you are reaching the population of some small towns! Perhaps that is how we should describe Jeeptoberfeset – a makeshift town of nothing but good natured and happy to meet you off roaders.
The event staff had their hands full with crowd control but really it was the obstacle course that kept everyone’s attention. With segments like “Rock Crusher Hill” and the extreme course “Monster Mash” Jeeps from mild to wild pitted their mettle (and metal) against what bulldozers and course designers could throw at them.
Speaking of the extreme course – gold star to Bill and Jess for being the ONLY Jeep Wrangler JK to complete it! Way to make REBELCON’s everywhere proud.
We’d like to thank the staff for being so helpful in getting out team set up and presenting. To our friends that made it happen – good on you. You are our extended family and we love you for it.
