Default any archers on the site...just bought an AFB...loving it !!!

just bought an american flat bow ... 68 inch ... 35 lb draw...

i intend to get into field archery in the mourne mountains here...

shot my first 60 arrows yesterday...
aiming at a 2 foot target from 50 feet distance...
10 outside the 2 foot...
50 inside the 2 foot...
25 of which were inside the 1 foot...
5 of which were inside the gold centre circle...

not bad i guess for a first ever attempt...
i have a proper lesson booked in 10 days time...

anyone else letting fly with longbow ???

I was shooting a recurve for awhile, but not a long bow. A friend I work with has a great pic of him with a big bull moose he killed with a long bow. Do you plan on hunting with it or is it just for target practice? A long, or recurve can be very rewarding. It takes time to mater instinctive shooting but that's what makes it still so popular. Although maybe not here on this forum, there is still quite a following of traditional archery all over the world.

I'm building a molgabet bow in my spare time when I visit my folks. Nice workshop and tools. I used to shoot an old bear takedown recurve when I was a kid. I'm trying to get back into the sport and try my hand at some dear/turkey this year. Good luck and have fun. I'll post pics of the bow when its finished. Still need to back it, tilller, finish the nocks, cut the arrow shelf and build/ form the riser. I've got it floor tillered and the most of the 'bulk wood' removed. Sounds like a lot of work, but It's a lot of fun. I'm going for around 45# at 30 inches, length is about67" nock to nock.
