For those looking for some inspiration to do it for the first time and don't think they can or for those just needing a boot in the ass to get back at it. Google Blazeman or warrior poet and his story. A friend and neighbor of mine growing up, his folks still are. We used to race bmx together as kids and ran track together in high school.

Get out and swim, ride and run while you are still able and can. Life is too damn short.

ALS sucks but John didn't let it slow him down till the very end and even though it's what took his life it never beat him.

If you feel so inclinded after you read his story... DONATE to help beat ALS and then go do a triathalon.

I usually do 4-5 sprints and one Olympic a year. I'm going to be doing an Xterra this year instead of the Olympic. I raced mountain bikes for years and it sounded like a lot of fun.

My wife and I just joined a training group. Our sprint is in Sept. 400 yrd swim, 15 mi bike and 3.2 mi run. The course is super hilly and ABQ is a mile high.

I thought I was an ok swimmer, but never just did freestyle. I was the 1 lap free 2 laps breast type of swimmer. Full freestyle is tough, but I think I'm about to turn the corner.

I've been a runner in the past, but my knees are tore up. That's my least fav, but it's getting easier.

The cycling is the biggest surprise. I went head first into the shallow end and bought a 2011 Specialize Rubiax Elite. (Can't believe I spent almost $2K on a bike!!!) I have not been on a road bike since I road my big brother's 10 speek when I was 8 years old. I had no idea that I would like it so much. I'm already addicted to hill climbs.

Overall I love the multi sport nature of the Tri and working out with a coach/team is great too.

I think this is the last Sprint of the year here in NM. If there's one in SD this winter I'll try to hit it up. If not, I'm going to go nuts trying to hill climb in the mountains as much as possible. NM has some super steep stuff to conquer.

I must admit that I used to be that agro guy that could not understand why someone on a bike would want to ride on the road with cars. All I can say is that I get it now. Everywhere I drive I'm always checking out the bike lanes.
