Default Gold Prospecting

My DH, Son, and I are gold prospectors (our hobby). We've prospected around our area, also Arizona, and California. We love to check out old mine sites and ghost towns. We enjoyed a fantastic vacation last fall in our new Rubi exploring Colorado mountain roads and checking out places like Anamos Forks. Anyone else out there do any prospecting?

I have a co-worker that does it from time to time as a hobby. One of these days I plan to tag along on one of his trips to see what it's all about.

I'm a bit surprised there are no replies to this thread. Surely I'm not the only prospector out there? Oh well, all the more for me.

I'm no prospector, but I surely am a wannabe.

I've been wondering where to post since this deserves a spot of its own, after all they were amongst the first off roaders!

I usually carry a pan or two since one never knows, but I would like to get a metal detector but not by spending as much as for my bumper.

Any idea's who sells used? Surely there must be a bunch out there.

Jeepin, gold, and photography, life is sweet.

A friend of mine, a few yars back when gold was only about 24 bucks an ounce would regularly pull out about 12grand a year doing it only on weekends. Not too shabby at todays prices that would bring in 500,000.00

I've been considering getting a setup together, actually two, One for strictly prospecting and one to play with when mucking about. Any ideas what is best?

I'm not leaving out the idea of semi-precious stones, geodes and the like as there are plenty in the deserts of Calif.

When I was a kid my old man would stop now and then and we would pull the pan out.

Don't do it much these days, most of the time I'm in a river I have a fly rod in hand. BUT, still good times.

There's great places up here if you make it this far north.
