Mountain Bike.....or Road Bike?
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU GET......YOU WILL END UP WITH ONE OF EVERYTHING!!!!! BUYING BIKES IS AN ADDICTION VERY SIMILAR TO BUYING MODS FOR YOUR JEEP. I STARTED OUT WITH A TREK FUEL MTB BIKE....THEN I BOUGHT A ROAD BIKE....THEN I BOUGHT ANOTHER/BETTER ROAD BIKE. THEN I BOUGHT A BETTER MTB BIKE, A SINGLE SPEED, AND A CYCLOCROSS BIKE. I EVEN BUILT A ROAD BIKE OUT OF ALL THE SPARE PARTS I HAD COLLECTED OVER THE YEARS. I JUST SOLD FOUR OF MY BIKES OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS AND I'M NOW LEFT WITH TWO....A GARY FISHER ROAD BIKE AND A JAMIS DAKAR FULL SUSPENSION MTB BIKE. GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND....GOOD LUCK

Mountain bike!
I just got a specialized hardtail for 650. It works well for me and I love being in the woods away from cars and traffic. It's more fun and more relaxing. While getting a good work out.

It's mountain bike for me. A lot of the same theories of off-roading we use for Jeeping applies to mountain biking. I like to scout for potential Jeep trails on my bike. But I am lucky there are quite a lot of trails within 5-10 miles of where I live so I get a lot of variety with the trails I ride. If you don't have a lot of trails around you I'd be more inclined to get a road bike.

Yep. This is a question the answer is both. Bikes are addictive for sure.
I'm in the process of reviving my 96 specialized rockhopper a1 fs comp. It's getting a full xtr grouppo and new hardware.
Love the frame need a revival in the rest of the dept.

its easier to find a group ride for a road bike - around here, there are groups at every level. Riding with others will push you harder and make you ride longer. I love the moutain single track but have to drive 30-45 minutes to get to a decent trail. I tried riding my moutain bike on the roads for a while but the pedaling is just too inefficient. And of course, you could never show up with a mountain bike to a ride with a bunch or roadies wearing lycra.
BTW: road bike - Giant TCR-2, shimano 105's, easton EA90 wheelset
mountain bike - Cannondale SuperV 900 full suspension, carbonfiber trailing arm, hydralic V brakes,
full XTR.
