Default Recommendation for entry level MTB

Just like the title says, I'm looking at getting back into biking once I finish my hip replacement rehab. Looking to spend around $500.00 for a front suspension mountain bike, any advice...

I would look for something used because for that price you won't be able to get good components.

I was able to get a year old Gary Fisher Cobia 29er hard tail for about $600 (which retailed for over $1100 that year).

You can get a hardtail Specalized for around 400 bucks. Mine has mechanical disc brakes and Shimano gears. For about 600-700 you can get a Specalized full suspension. look up the Stump Jumper or Rock Hopper. There's a bunch of good starter bikes out there for what you want to pay.

Depends what your riding style is.. I picked up a Kona a couple of years back at one of the off season super sales. Here in Colorado you can get huge savings waiting to buy last years models.. Kona is very similar to Gary Fisher, but IMO, climbs better. if you can wait, find a sale and you'll be able to get a bike for $500... 1. Kona 2. Gary Fisher for me..
