shon,

I went to your web site. Beautiful work; especially the birds in flight.

Thanks

One of the reasons I got the JK was to get closer to the critters for photos. It has served me well. There is nothing like standing in the back of a Jeep tracking a dove over the water...

Shon......I also went to your web page. I read your "Baiting" article. You made a few references to hunting, so I have to ask....are you "anti" hunting or anti hunting just for "sport"...???

I admit, I had to go back and read that one again. I wrote that one a few years ago. It was originally intended as a shot at a peer that was claiming superiority as though photography were a full contact sport. Might be time to take it down or write something new.

I don't have anything against hunting. I've hunted mulies, elk, all sorts of birds and really enjoy fishing. I do not hunt anymore other than fishing, mostly because I don't enjoy it nearly as much as photography. To me, capturing a good photo of a critter is more enjoyable than the thrill of the hunt. The concepts and methods are similar but snapping the photo is my preference.

As for hunting for sport, if it is hunting, I'm ok with that - it is fun. As for killing for sport, well, that's another story....

Yeah......I don't kill anything that I don't eat. As for the thrill of taking pics. One time me and a friend were caribou hunting. We had killed our bulls and were just relaxing and waiting to be flown out in a couple days. A small group of caribou bulls came by camp and bed down not far away. I said to my friend..."let's go put the injun (Indian) slink on em"....lol. So we grabbed our cameras and started our stalk. The wind and cover was right and I got extremely close to a bull. My buddy got a series of pics of me laying down next to a bush and the caribou bull jumping up right next to me. It was every bit as as fun and exhilarating as hunting with the rifles....

You would love it.....a big bull caribou, in the fall, when he's all decked out with his snowy white mane, is an absolutely beautiful critter for sure...!!!
