That sucks dude

Have you called around for prices for a rebuild? I'm just curious how much something like that would run.

Not another one! I thought it was just the odd one, but there are more & more reports every day coming in of 3.8L V6s failing at the majic 40K mile mark. I just started a thread to see if there is consensus on the cause of this.

there seems to me no rhyme or reason to it either.. seems to happen to those that baby them and also those that wheel hard...

and there are those out there with 60k+ on them that wheel really hard and have no sign of issues...

doesnt seem to be one year either.. obviously we see more 07's but thats because they are older and have more miles on them typically...

I wish we had oil pressure gauges.. usually you can see beginnings of engine failure in abnormal oil pressure...

but of course a dumb idiot light tells you nothing...

Am I wrong, but all the blown engines with low mileage have been previously used vehicles. Are there reports of an original owner experiencing this?

I just wonder if this is caused by some kid who never changed the oil for the first 30,000 miles and then traded it in for something new

You make a good point there.

Question Installing oil pressure guage in JK; Difficult?

Does anyone know how hard it is to fit an oil pressure guage to the JK? I know on pre-computer controlled vehicles it was just a matter of replacing the sender unit for the idiot light with one for use with pressure guages & then just running the wiring & installing a guage in the dash.

I'm assuming with the JK you need to install an additional sender unit to the one already fitted, as the computer would start throwing codes if you replaced it with a sender for pressure reading?

I think the oil light is one of the few systems that doesn't involve the computer.

You could install a T under the OEM pressure switch.

Or, you can install an adapter plate under the oil filter.

I like the idea of the T-fitting; I'll look into it & post results.

My other vehicles all have pressure guages & I like the pre-warning of complete loss of pressure they give.

I noticed recently that the needle on the guage of my old '83 Mercedes was a little slower than usual to rise from idle pressure to normal operating pressure when I acellerated, so I checked the oil level & sure enough, it was low. Not low enough to starve the pump on level ground, but low enough to cause the pump to hesitate in producing full output pressure. I was able to add a few quarts of oil before I completely starved the pump of oil and did some real damage.

Is it still just a piss poor quality control issue?

Off topic about the oil pressure guage question

Google Aeroforce Interceptor Gauge. It plugs into the computer port under the dash, which also provides power. It will read many things in addition to oil pressure, including tranny temp. Want to know your cat temps, ambient intake temp, etc? You can show 2 different readings at a time, and the display can cycle through different readings at intervals you select. I hear the newer ones let you control fan,ESP and some other settings (mine are too old). Part # CNCx01.

You can have 2 bright warning lights flash if a reading (under or over)exceeds parameters you set.

Upside - plug and play, multifunctional

Down side - about $250.
Are you sure it displays oil pressure?
