2007 jk where did my oil go?
We may have an answer as to why some of these motors are burning oil. See the link below; a guy had his motor dismantled to investigate the heavy oil use & they found that 3 sets of piston rings had the gaps lined up (ie: incorrectly installed at the Mexican manufacturing plant).

Well, its only a matter of time now.
I just changed my oil today after another 6,000 miles (its Mobile 1 with a Mobile 1 extended use filter)
Anyway, only 2.5 quarts came out. I've noticed it seemed fairly low in some of the past oil changes that I've done myself, but haven't actually measured until today. This is not good.

Yeah, that is too much oil lost between changes. I would be looking into that to try and resolve the issue. Keep your eye on your oil level daily since you for sure know you have an oil loss problem. Good luck.
Who ever the looney toons mech that told you it's normal to burn 1 qt every 1,000 miles.....don't go to him for service....lol We would have blown engines coming out the ying yang if that were the case. If that were the case, I'd better check mine because i'm probably about 4 qts low now.
If the dealer is an authorized service center for chrysler and its under warranty, you shouldn't have to pay a dime. Saying that, Chrysler doesn't give up warranty work without a fight. I had to fight tooth and nail to get paint warranty work from Chrysler and even had to file for arbitration before they would take action. That was about 15 years ago so I hope they have improved the process.

First of all, I enjoy popping the hood on my Jeep. I do it often, certainly every time I fuel. Mine doesn't use any extra oil yet, sounds like a problem may develop.
If my motor is out of warantee & starts to burn a quart every thousand miles, that will be the day I never change it again. Just dump in a new quart every other week and screw on a new filter every 3k miles.
I hope I didn't get a lemon too.
Good luck OP.

Well here's an update on the outcome of my 08 engine oil problem, first on 3 pistons the ring gaps where in a line the other three where close, all 6 oil expander rings where instaled upside down. The shop changed all the rings, valve seals, de-carbon the the heads and valves put the engine back together. I have put about 250km on it so far with no problems, it seems to have the power that was there when I bought it.The dealer ship I went to gave me no problems with fixing it or any issues with warenty

As you are one of many with high oil-usage motors this gives weight to the assertion of some posters here that there was a bad batch of motors produced over a certain period of time which Chrysler off-the-record knows all about, presumably before the quality control inspector was fired for being whacked out of his head on tequila while on the line.
I agree there is a major problem not with the engine itself but with the way they were put together, you never know what you will get any more with different parts been made all over the place, all I can say is any engine that burns a large ammount of oil is not acceptable, sooner or later the carbon build up will not only effect engine performance but fuel mileage to. ( this is just my opinion, will let you know if any oil ussage when I hit 1000km )
Just picked mine up from the dealer today. They found that #2 and #6 ring gaps were lined up and #3 and #4 control rings were carboned and seized. They state that they cleaned the pistons and replaced all the rings. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
