Sometime after the first of the year, we should be good and settled in, and then...........

I bought mine a few years back at the local office in Sparks. Toiyabe and Tahoe maps would be a good start. I know you can find some ghost town maps online but I am not sure where.

Just read you will be in Lemon Valley. I am 1/2 a valley over in Stead. A good short trip is up and over Peavine Mtn. Peavine is the largest Mtn in the area. The main road up is basically just a little north of the stead exit. Close to the top there is a road to the left. This will drop you down into Mitchell Canyon road. There are several routes to take through here back in the trees. You may not even need 4wd but it is still a good trip through the trees. I took a trip though there two years ago and saw 32 deer along the way. The kids loved it.

I've found a few maps online of the Tahoe area, not very detailed though. I'll pick up a copy of 'Nevada Gazettere' and see what I can find.

I've heard of Peavine, didn't know exactally where it is, or that I would be that close to it. We're actually going to be off Lemmon Dr. NE of the airport, I know there are a few trails off the end of our street too, so I got lots of exlporing to do

Peavine is WAY mild There are some trails on the backside that are challenging and there are entrances in NW Reno that allow you to run some trails and not graded road up to the top.

Here is a pic from Sunday night up at Hunter Lake, just across the valley:

Way mild is good for me at this point, since I'm running a completely bottom-end stock X, but as my sig says, 'At least I've got a JK'

I actually found out that you can get topos free online from the USGS, so of course I downloaded a few. So my next question is, where are these trail heads?

Good find on the Topos. I will need to look into that.

Peavine is mild. I did mention you may not even need 4wd. The main road is mild rough but flat. You can also go up the pond road behind Horizon Hills. It is a little off camber and provides a bit more of a challenge. The Quakies to the right provide a few hill climbs and nice scenery and then you can go around the Mountain and head up 7th street although this is a popular for mountain bikers.

The mountain right off of the end of lemon drive is a popular off-road area for bikes and quads. There is a motocross track and go cart track back about a mile or so on airport property. The bad thing about the Mountain is it is locked on all sides by houses. Lots of trash, empty gun casing and such.

The hunter lake side of the valley is nice. We used to take this route up and then follow it back to big meadow and such. There are routes that will drop you down into I-80 at a couple of points.

I'll definately be checking those out the first chance I get. Probably won't be till after the first of the year though, gotta find work, get settled in and all that good stuff.

The link for the topos is here: http://store.usgs.gov/locator/?store_url=http://store.usgs.gov/scripts/wgate/zww2018577575/~flNlc3Npb249UFJEOklHU0tBSENJR1NTQVAwMjowMDAyLjAwM jYuYWQ4MDc0NTQuZmNkYiZ*aHR0cF9jb250ZW50X2NoYXJzZXQ 9aXNvLTg4NTktMSZ*U3RhdGU9NTI0Ny4wMDEuMDMuMDY=?~okc ode=SESH

They're in PDF format, and some are a bit dated, but its better than nothing

Are ya moved yet?

There are some trails off the west side of Peavine that are fun and challenging, I scraped my Xterra up back there, other than I was able to run it in a stock 2005 Xterra OR.

Nope, not moved yet, we're leaving here the morning after Christmas, so we should be there the evening of the 26th. The only catch is I'll need to find work before I can go out wheelin', have to have someway to pay for the gas

Anyone know someone looking for a web designer or a graphics artist?

Used all of those when I was looking for a job before moving up here from So Cal.

Good Luck! If I hear of anything I will let you know, I'm in the IT field.

Hey, thanks for the tips. Its been a crazy week. We're finally moved in. Busy unpacking and getting everything put together, but we're here

The wife's pretty happy that its snowing

Had an interview today with a company down off S. Virginia, hopefully I'll land that one, sounds like it will be a good place to work.
