help me with gears!
im getting tired of how sluggish the JK is.... time for gears.
It seems labor is quite a big deal for the job so Im thinking it might make sense to drop in some diffs or lockers while doing this... top it off with new diff covers.
i need suggestions pls.
- 35" tires (no plans of going bigger)
- Non rubi dana 30/44's
- I daily drive the car
- i go up rocky gap, nelson or devils about 6-10 times a year
- so far my open diffs havent really been an issue on trails
- I go snowboarding with kids & drive in snow
i think i have a loose idea of what I want, planning on taking car to adams driveshaft... but would like more opinions and suggestions before I do anything since this is a costly ordeal.
so far im thinking 4.88 or 5.13 gears (based on reading this forum), put an aussie type locker infront & a eaton Elock in rear.... but im not sure.
thx in advance

now that im thinking about it maybe it would be a waste of $$ to put a locker in a dana30.... maybe once i put a locker in it other things will start breaking.
maybe i should just save for a whole new axle set up.

If you plan on upgrading the D30 to something else, then why spend any money on a D30 unless you absolutly need to? For the price of gears (parts and labor) plus a ARB locker you could buy or almost buy a D44.

I'd just re gear the Dana 30. don't invest in a locker. I would do a locker in the back. and re gear. something to think about is pinon and ring strength. pick out a strong set and go with it. I would invest in a rubicrawler transfer case to get the lower gearing if you need it.
