Winter time trails in Silver State?
As it gets toward winter I know that Northern California trails will begin closing. With that I was wondering if the silver state could be amazing during the winter. So, with that how are the trails in northern Nevada? Maybe we could put together a trip with Nor Cal and Nor Nevada JK people
I'm trying to gather up fellow JK's in the Reno/Sparks area for meet and greet.
I can update this thread if we can gather up a group interested in doing a local run.
We have trails to run in the winter as long as we haven't had a deep snow.
Here's a few:
Bronco Canyon in the Virginia City area
El Dorado Canyon begining in Minden and ending in the Dayton area.
Sand Mountain outside of Fallon
Peavine Mtn right here in Reno
Barney Riley trail south of Gardnerville
Moon Rocks (rock crawling) north of Reno
Prison Hill (rock crawling) in Carson City

Some lower desert runs will be open but the good trails will be covered in snow for the winter. Maybe even starting this weekend. Here is a thread from last year just a few miles from home. It was this way for a few months.

Oh and the forestry service is starting seasonal closures of roads in the forests around Reno so check with them (pickup a map of the Carson ranger district) if you decide to wheel around. Otherwise it could be a good size ticket.
