tube fenders do you need the plactic under protection

I just installed river raider fenders on the jeep and what are your thoughts regarding leaving the protective inner fender off. I have seen people cut them to fit but I just want some ideas on if I should or do I evern need to.

Andy - I'd trim the liners (actually did on ours) so there's less cleaning...found that our engine seemed to be running hotter because we had done a few trips without cleaning the Jeep and the dust and dirt on the engine seemed to be making it hot. I hosed everything off in the engine compartment and used some degreaser and on our Big Bear run this past weekend it seemed to be a little cooler. If the liners weren't in it would have been worst. JMO but just trim them...yeah looks better without but isn't that just vanity

I left the front ones on and took the rear ones out. Instead of just leaving the bare paint exposed in the rear I sanded down the wheel wells and sprayed in a few coats of bedliner. It gives it a clean look with it being black again and obviously adds protection against the weather and whatnot just as the plastic pieces would have been doing.
